“You can only be as good as your raw product” is a cliché that rings no truer than in a restaurant. The relationships that Chef Randy has cultivated with his local farming partners and far reaching purveyors of fine goods is a responsibility he sees as his own. Developing the menus at Blu often happen in reverse of typical chefs where the products create the dish verses an idea or recipe and then bringing in specific ingredients. It’s a dynamic process that Randy thrives on, often editing the menu just minutes before dinner service begins.
Son and 3rd generation chef, Logan originally studied photography, he now puts his artistry into the food he presents alongside his father. Logan has an eye for delicate food composition and is learning the craft. All the while making his own way while living in Leelanau County with his wife Jamie and daughter Tula. They enjoy gardening, cooking and healthy living.
Originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Mari has been in hospitality her whole life. Mari is a Certified Sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers. All aspects of beverage development along with overseeing the service team are handled by Mari but she couldn’t be happier than when playing with her chocolate lab Otis at Leelanau beaches.
A lifelong Leelanau County and Traverse City resident while raised in a family that always owned and operated restaurants, Randy was in the kitchen by age 10. With no culinary schooling Randy honed his skills over the years working at the best restaurants in the region. Opening Blu with Mari in 2008 and receiving a James Beard Nomination in 2010 for “Best Chef-Great Lakes Region”. Randy never slows in his pursuit of excellence.
